"Tangling on Fabric"

is scheduled for October 4th!!!  I scheduled it early for those of you "Zentangle Graduates" who got closed out of this new class last Spring.  So check my "Classes" page for more information!  The tote bag or craft apron you create in this class make GREAT gifts!!  I just gave my girlfriend one for her birthday and am making a few more for Xmas gifts.  They don't take long to do and, as those who have already taken the class discovered, it is really fun working on a larger surface!!!

Those you who already took the Tangling on Fabric class will enjoy knowing that you can create a "Renaissnce" look on fabric by using brown and white fabric markers!!! (I'm giving this to my Aunt for Xmas. Shhhh....please don't tell her!)

For the white, I used a Marvy DecoFabric marker;
and for the brown I used a Marvy Uchid brush marker.  Both purchased at Jo-Ann's.

NEW TANGLE!

NYMPH by Melinda Barlow

Nymph is a "tangleation" of the tangle 'NZeppel.  And I love the depth and flower-like appearance created by just the addition of lines!  Here's a Zentangle I created using Nymph:

Well, I just returned from a beautiful trip to the "Land of Enchantment" ... New Meixco!  A paradise for art lovers.  And, as I wandered through one of the trip highlights, the "Millicent Rodgers

Museum" in Taos, I  snapped a few photos of some ancient pottery that I thought you Zentangle lovers would enjoy!

Residents of Tahoe Senior Plaza Rock!

I felt very fortunate to conduct 3 Zentangle workshops for the residents of Tahoe Senior Plaza this past June!   What a wonderful group of folks … and, what fun we had!  I taught them about the history of Zetangle and how it relaxes the soul.  We listened to beautiful classical music while we tangled, had lots of laughs and enjoyed each other's company.  The administrative staff provided wonderful lunches, and joined in the workshops, too!  I am so proud of the folks who participated as they created absolutely beautiful art!  Looking forward to returning for the 4th workshop at the end of July!

For those of you who didn't get into the 2 new classes this past spring, mark your calendar because dates have been scheduled as follows:

Tangling on Fabric: 
Saturday, October 4 OR Saturday, December 6

I had a rough few weeks with a very bad case of bronchitis!   Definitely not used to being off my feet and out of circulation for so long.  It feels so good to be well and back doing all the things I love to do!!  Will look forward to resuming  the "new tangle" feature of my blog this September!

One of my students, Robin Clark, asked me to pass on the following information for any of you folks who like to tangle inside a pattern.  If you go to GOOGLE.COM, you'll see the word "IMAGES" in the upper right corner of the page. Select it, and then then type in "guilt patterns coloring pages" and you'll be delighted at the tons of great patterns you can tangle in!"

INTRODUCTION TO 

RENAISSANCE TILES CLASS 

Twenty-one wonderful women (and Zentangle devotees) just participated in this new class.   Being able to incorporate black, brown AND white ink, as well as shade with a graphite pencil AND highlight with a white pastel pencil, on the SAME tan paper was a blast!!  Take a look at the amazing and beautiful Zentangles they created using their new tools and tiles … WOW!  

Next month I will post any photos you send me using your new tiles and tools! So don't forget to send them!!!

Zentangle isn't just for humans!

Hi Everyone,

Well, anal me is a bit late this month with my blog!  Yikes!  I've been delightfully esnconced in my studio preparing for the new Renaissance and Fabric classes which begin next week!!   I'm very excited!!!!!!!  

I didn't want to let the month go by without sharing a few wonderful photos that one of my students, Cherie, sent me.  Love them!

Two New Classes! Schedule Set!

I've delayed posting this month until the full description and schedule was set for the two new classes.  So here they are:

Introduction to Renaissance (Tan) Tiles

Journey back to the time of Leonardo da Vinci and Michaelangelo in this class that focuses on using Brown, Black and White colors on tan tiles.   In this class you will learn all of the techniques for creating your own unique "Renaissance art".  Learn some new tangles, too!  But more importantly -- give the old tangles a completely new and beautiful look that you will LOVE!  So join us and take the world of Zentangle back in time!  Please bring your Black Micron #01 & 08 pens, graphite pencil, and 2 shaders (tortillions) - one for white one for graphite to class.  I will have these available for purchase.  Prerequisites: “Zentangle 101” and  “Advanced Zentangle.”

Tuition:  $35.  Pay $12 to instructor for Renaissance Kit
Date:  Saturday,  April 5  OR  Tuesday, April 15th
Time:  10am-1pm
Location:  Art Classroom

Tangling on Fabric:
Create an apron or tote bag, your choice!   

We will begin by trying out our new fabric pens on some different material swatches.  And, some helpful hints will be given for tangling on fabric!  I will also demo a few NEW TANGLES! Then we will go to work on your chosen project:  the Tote Bag OR the Apron.   The tote is 10-1/2”x14”x5” ten oz. natural canvas with 23” shoulder straps;  and, has a full side and bottom gussets (More space to tangle!!)   The apron is a 22”x24” 10oz. natural canvas with 3 roomy front pockets and an adjustable neck. Makes a great craft apron!!   I searched around to get the best quality and price on each of these items. And, of course, assistance will be given throughout the class, as needed while you work on your project.  Afterward, you can use what you learned to tangle on all sorts of fabric items!!!   Come play because it’s going to be a fun time!  Prerequisites: “Zentangle 101” and  “Advanced Zentangle.”

Tuition:  $40.  Pay $15 to instructor for either Apron OR Tote Bag AND fabric pen kit.
Date:  Saturday, May 3 OR  Thursday, May 15
Time:  10am-2:00  Bring a snack or bag lunch
Location:  Art Classroom

Ready to tangle on something other than paper?

Yes!!  Well, I am sooooooooooo excited as I am planning to launch 2 new classes this spring!  So, if you've gone through my other classes, you will be eligible to take either one or both of these new classes.  

A sneak preview:

INTRODUCTION TO TANGLING ON FABRIC

Learn about tangling on fabric and complete a project … either a canvas tote bag, t-shirt, etc.

INTRODUCTION TO TANGLING ON RENAISSANCE (TAN)TILES:

Learn how to use Brown, Black, and White pens
and chalk on tan tiles (or tan paper) to create your own amazing "Renaissance" work of art! 

Both classes will give you the opportunity to expand your skills
and take your tangling to a whole new level!!! 

I've spent the past three months playing with the new Zentangle tan tiles.   I went nuts and fell in love with them … the look is incredible and the possibilities are endless.  Here's just a couple of samples:

In terms of fabric, I had way too much fun with a 50 cent t-shirt, a 75 cent canvas bag,  and a one dollar pair of sneakers that I got at a garage sale!

I put some black and white ribbon through the hood and attached some black beads.

A touch of red!

You did this Zentangle in the Advanced Class!   Remember?!?!

Notice I attached a couple of charms to the zippers.

And now for this month's new tangle …

VERDIGOGH

This is one of Maria's favorite tangles.  it was inspired by a pine branch.
Like so many tangles, it appears complicated when it's done, but as
we all now know, "anything is possible one stroke at a time!"

I love this tangle … it has an organic feel to it. You can see how I used it in my latest creation which I have just placed in the Artisan Store at the Brewery Art Center.  I got the amazing table at a garage sale, stripped off layers of old paint, sanded it, added the knobs, painted it, tangled the top, and covered it with glass.  The Verdigogh tangle is in the lower left hand corner of the table top.

Zentangle 101 Classes are beginning on Saturday February 1st and Wednesday February 5th.  The Saturday class is already filled, but there are still some openings in the Wednesday one!
